GOI Jupiter-8 2/5cm prototype Kiev
1948, “State Optical Institute” (GOI) Leningrad, USSR
Jupiter-8 lens first released by GOI in late 1948. Only a handful of these lenses have been made in 1948-49 for testing and evaluation before the serial production commenced in the KMZ factory.
The very first Soviet 2/5cm lenses were made in 1948 using original Zeiss parts assembled in the Soviet Union. At the same time GOI engineers began to develop their own version of the lens. It wasn't an easy task, because the Russian glass had different optical characteristics and the Sonnar formula by Bertele had to be recalculated to match the quality of the German counterpart.
