Canon 7 35mm film rangefinder camera fast 0.95/50mm lens 1968

Canon 7 camera is Leica-M39-compatible, interchangeable-lens rangefinder film camera, typically offered along with the fast Canon 0.95/50mm lens, made by Canon Camera Co., Inc. in the 1960s and designed to be the flagship model of the Canon rangefinder system.

Unfortunately, in 1954 Leitz released its Leica M3 rangefinder camera, a model that astonished the camera world with its innovative features. At that point, most camera manufacturers in Japan decided that it would not be possible to beat Leica at its own game.

The M-mount was patented by Leitz which prevented Canon, Nikon and the rest of the Japanese manufacturers from making their M-compatible lenses for decades.
