Summarit M 1.4/5cm prototype Nr. A

Summilux archetype, 1958

Summarit M 1.4/5cm First One Leica lens prototype Nr. A 1958 lens front

A sensational new discovery and an important part of Leica's history - a prototype M Summarit 1.4 / 5cm with a special serial number “A”.

The prototype shares some of the characteristics of the early Summarit 1.4 / 50 mm prototypes, but also has some unique features such as the unusual focus tab or the reversed knurling on the focus ring.

The original 1958 blueprint “Lens Summarit f=5cm, 1:1.4”, with a red “UNGÜLTIG” stamp, confirms that the name Summarit later changed to Summilux.

The Summarit M 1.4 / 5cm First One Prototype No. A is probably the first Leica 1.4 / 50mm lens with a Leica M bayonet and certainly one of the most interesting lenses that we have ever offered in one of our auctions!

This amazing Summarit prototype will be auctioned at the Leitz Photographica Auction №39 on 20 November 2021 at the Hotel Bristol in Vienna, Austria.
