Analog Forever Magazine's 125+ page debut print publication, featuring 10 analog and experimental photographers from around the globe – from Europe and Great Britain to the USA and Germany – each exploring various methods for using the medium we love in individual, creative ways.

Featured interviews

Fred Lyon – from the streets of his native San Francisco, to the offices of Life and Vogue, Fred takes us on a nostalgic tour of old San Francisco and the world from the 1940s and 1950s as we examine his 75+ year career as a professional photographer and photojournalist.

Yelena Zhavoronkova – about her still life Platinum/Palladium prints and techniques, and how even the simplest objects come alive with proper lighting and printing techniques.

Estevan Oriol – about his 20+ career as an urban lifestyle and documentary photographer that has allowed him to create a portfolio that juxtaposes the glamorous and gritty streets of Los Angeles culture, including portraits of famous artists and celebrities, as well as Latino, urban, gang, and tattoo culture lifestyles.

Lynn Bierbaum – explores her search for belonging, and for a place, she can call home, by creating three-dimensional photography sculptures from a hybrid process of wet plate collodion and blown glass.

Featured Photographer: John F Cooper - “Organic Portraits”
New York-based photographer John F. Cooper’s series Organic Portraits is a timeless and fundamentally beautiful collection of portraits, produced on traditional 4x5 and 8x10 Polaroid film, that were created to raise awareness for—and help preserve—the world's rainforests. With the aid of stylist Peter Brown, his series showcases living art pieces that combine the worlds of analog photography, style, fashion, and art. The resulting book, funded as a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, donated 100% of it's profits to the Rain Forest Action Network.

Featured Photographer: Mads Madison - “Memories”
Mads Madison is a German self-taught visual artist and analog photographer. His series Memories examines the ideas of false memories, made up moments, and inner conflicts and emptiness that come into our lives via harmful social constructs, such as the desire for beauty and status. By deconstruction, the original message of these images are distorted and their meanings shifted. Scenes and plots are rewritten which leads to a multiverse of interpretational facets and fragments, leaving the viewer orphaned with a mix of conflicting feelings and thoughts.

Interviewed Photographer: Yelena Zhavoronkova - “Grana” + “Off Center”
Yelena Zhavoronkova is a California-based fine art photographer and graphic designer. Over the past decade, Yelena has been intensively studying and working in photography, which helps her to express her artistic vision. Her beautifully lit and intimate still life images focus on our natural world, and all of her design and artistic sensibilities are lovingly presented as platinum/palladium prints. We are thrilled to highlight photographs from the Grana and Off Center collections, with a special emphasis on her printing techniques in this upcoming interview.

Featured Photographer: Blue Mitchell - “Evanescent-Energy”
Blue Mitchell, as an artist, publisher, curator, and educator, is a ceaseless enthusiast for all things photographic. Employing many different techniques throughout his own photographic work, he takes us beyond the representational photographic image, adding a visual texture that speaks to the unseen emotional presence of the moment. We’ll be looking at his series Evanescent Energy, where serene landscapes are dynamically transformed by heat and flame.

Featured Photographer: K.K. DePaul - “Reluctant Brides” + “Between the Lines”
K.K. DePaul is a photographic artist whose chosen process of layered assemblage creates stunning and thought provoking imagery. Producing work that is intensely personal and strikingly created, her assemblages focus on memory and secrets. A true master of mixed media, K.K. uses her past to inform her photographic creations like no other. Analog Forever Magazine is looking forward to featuring K.K.’s imagery to our analog obsessed fans.

Interviewed Photographer: Lynn Bierbaum - “Thai Appreciation”
Lynn Bierbaum is an alternative process photographer and glassblower from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who’s series, Thai Appreciation, explores her search for belonging and for a place she can call home, by creating three-dimensional photography sculptures from a hybrid process of wet plate collodion and blown glass. Lynn’s work strives to find a balance between two and three-dimensional planes which creates an unique perspective for the viewer to observe, hold, and touch the work she creates.

Featured Photographer: Anna Foersterling - “The Best of Anna Foersterling”
Anna Försterling is a German fine art photographer who captures expressive portraits that are both minimalist and complexly emotional. The images she creates expose her models' feelings and character by showing their strength, beauty, and fragility. She captures the whole of the human form with all if it’s detail with her own unique aesthetic that utilizes both nude models and striking faces that takes portraiture to a whole other level.

Interviewed Photographer: Fred Lyon - “7 Decades of Editorial Photography”
For over seven decades, with a ravenous eye and boundless energy, Fred Lyon has been firmly anchored behind a camera. From the streets of his native San Francisco, to the offices of Life and Vogue, to the sensuous joys of food, wine, and travel, Fred has seen, and shot, nearly all life has to offer. We are honored to be able to sit down with him to discuss his life, his work, and the faces he’s seen along the way.

Featured Photographer: Nils Karlson - “Vastness”
His series explores the country of Iceland through a pinhole lens that describes the profound feeling of calm and quiet. His images evoke the primal nature of the plains stretching into the distance that allows us to see the true scope of this great land: an immense extent of volcanic debris, soil, and snow. He transports us into the great silence of this environment that can only be described as an almost limitless expanse of sky, changing its face from crystal clear to thick with snow in a blink. It’s only there that we can see the vastness of the world.

Interviewed Photographer: Estevan Oriol - “ The True Los Angeles”
Estevan Oriol is a photographer with a very special lens. Not the lens on his camera, but the lens with which he sees the world. For more than 25 years, his unique and authentic insight into the world of lowriders, hip hop and life in the inner city of Los Angeles, gives us a look at a world into which only he could offer with such perspective and personal truth. Armed with his camera and black and white film, Estevan shares his journey from hip hop tour manager for House of Pain and Cypress Hill to an internationally renowned and published photographer in a way no one else could.
