KOMZ

KOMZ – Kazan Optical–Mechanical Factory

The decision to build the Kazan Optical–Mechanical Factory (KOMZ) was taken by the USSR Labor and Defense Council on October 11, 1936. It was to be a copy of Leningrad “State Optical and Mechanical Factory” (GOMZ).

In October 1941, the Leningrad “State Optical and Mechanical Factory” (GOMZ) was evacuated to the site of the “Kazan Optical–Mechanical Factory” (KOMZ) / Казанский оптико-механический завод (КОМЗ).

Throughout the second half of the 1950s, Kazan was one of the largest centers of the Soviet optical industry.
